You're Expecting? Here's 9 Fun & Quirky Pregnancy Announcement Ideas.
Woohoo! Congratulations, you're expecting! And now that your nerves have finally settled, you're probably trying to figure out a fun and unusual way to share your wonderful news with, well...everyone.
But forget those old-fashioned, formal cards and the embossed, lacey mailed-out notices (well, maybe keep one on the side for Grams and Gramps), there's plenty of creative, funky ways to spread the word when you're ready to do so.
To give you some inspiration, here's 9 of our absolute favorite pregnancy announcement ideas - which one will you try out? And if you have any other great baby announcement ideas, be sure to leave a comment below.
1. Works Like a Charm (Literally)
You know how there are plenty of parents that walk around with child-themed jewellery? Like those necklaces with charms of each child's thumbprint or date of birth?
Whether you already own one or not, now's your chance. Get your expected due date engraved on a charm (or just leave one blank!), and pop it on a necklace or bracelet.
When next visiting friends or relatives, show them your flashy jewellery (you can always make an excuse like, "Check out how shiny it is! I just polished it today...") - aaaand wait for the penny to drop.
This pregnancy announcement idea is great for those Pandora-styled charm bracelets too (so there's another excuse to head out shopping...)
2. Ice, Ice Baby
You might've heard about this one, but this play on rapper Vanilla Ice's most famous song is too funny; we just couldn't pass it up. Grab two bags of ice and a camera. Have your partner stand next to you, holding them up. Get someone to snap a pic of the both of you - him smiling with the bags, and you with your hands circling your belly. (Get it? "Ice, Ice...Baby!")
But if you happen to be photo-shy, you can place the two bags of ice on a flat surface, with a pic from your ultrasound on the far right (as above) and snap away!
Share the pics via social media, or print them out and mail to family and relatives.
It won't take long before your phone will start buzzing from all the "likes," calls and messages!
3. Be Subtle with a Sticker
Still haven't told your partner? Here's a way - order a Lil' Baby on Board car decal and pop it in an envelope - addressed to your beloved - and write on it: "We'll be needing one of these soon." Then slip it into your mailbox with the rest of your mail.
When they next go to check the mail, they'll get a very pleasant surprise.
This pregnancy announcement idea also works well for soon-to-be-grandparents. Pop a Lil' Baby on Board sticker on the back of your car, and head out to visit them. When you arrive, get out of your car and walk around to the trunk and crouch down like you're checking for scratches.
Wait to see the look on their faces when they notice your new addition!
Or simply take a picture with any of our Baby On Board stickers.
4. Catch the National Premier...
There have been some awesome pregnancy announcement idea making the rounds on Pinterest and Twitter. Whether your favorite movie is The Hangover, Knocked Up, Star Trek, or The Minions, you'll be able to tailor a themed poster to suit your announcement's style.
Have a friend take a photo of you and your partner dressed up like the actors (props included, of course) from a well-known movie, do a little tweaking with an editing app or software, and voila! You've got a personalized announcement that showcases your fun side, and your sense of humor.
5. Bun in the Oven
Get out your baking trays and some flour and eggs. Playing on the old phrase of "bun in the oven," bake some cinnamon buns (that would totally put Cinnabon to shame) or any other sweet or savory buns, and get snapping with your camera!
You can capture a pic of your partner taking a tray (with a single bun on it - or two if you're having twins!) out of the oven, or do it together. It's especially cute if you style the shot so a sibling is coming to check what's baking inside...
6. Not too Early to Plan for Halloween
Okay, so Halloween is about 8 weeks away...but who doesn't plan their costume in advance? Make your theme skeletons this year, and pin or paste cut-out bones (or stickers) onto black clothing for each family member.
Add a teeny tiny skeleton to the blank space under your ribs, and wait to reveal your surprise when you go trick-or-treating or dress up for the neighbor's annual Halloween party.
7. The Old Switcheroo
Gone are the days when the "funniest" pregnancy announcement idea for photos were just of the mother-to-be bent over the toilet bowl. Get into the fun of role reversals with a photo of your partner pretending to hurl while you flash the positive pregnancy test at the camera, or get him to stuff his shirt with a pillow and caption the pic: "Guess who's pregnant?"
8. You're Having Baby...um, for Dinner
We've heard that this one was first introduced by Rebecca of Full House fame, and it's a great way to spill your secret to your closest family members (and is fun for those older kids too).
Either prepare a shopping list, or cook up a dinner, with everything "baby" themed. Think baby spinach, baby back ribs, baby corn...you get the picture. When asked what's for dinner, or what you need to buy at your next supermarket trip, share with them the details, and wait to see who's the first to notice!
9. Due Date = Expiry Date
And last but not least, this one is fantastically funny. Plan a scene for a photo with your kid/s (or even your pet!), with their "only child" or "youngest child" status set to expire on - yep, you guessed it, your due date.
You can get your kids to hold up a sign stating the fact, or have them wear a t-shirt with the message printed on, such as: "Only child...expiring December 2016."
All that's left to do then is share the end result!
